Benefits for everyone

The five-year investment of $ 318.75 million will:

• generate over $680 million in bill savings for ratepayers
• support 4,300 jobs across the province
• Reduce greenhouse gas emissions by nearly 380 kt

Energy efficiency remains one of the most cost-effective ways to reduce electricity costs. The Plan is expected to deliver measurable benefits to customers.

The 2027-2031 DSM Plan maintains a strong focus on accessibility and equity, with continued support for:

• $152 million to help residential customers with $55 million of this dedicated for low-income households, including renters improve home comfort and reduce energy costs
• $15 million to support Mi’kmaw communities reduce electricity costs while improving comfort and local economic benefits
• $113 million for businesses seeking to manage operating costs through energy savings

Efficiency investments benefit all Nova Scotians

Every kilowatt hour (kWh) saved means less electricity needs to be produced, helping avoid higher and often unpredictable fuel costs - costs that are passed on to ratepayers.

Efficiency Nova Scotia programs lower energy use, reduce system costs, and help keep future rates stable for all customers. Participants save directly on their bills, while non-participants benefit from slower rising electricity costs system-wide.

Energy efficiency programs have very little impact on power rates

Programs account for only 3% of Nova Scotia Power's expenses.

The current cost of energy efficiency programs – $63.75 million per year – is already included in electricity rates.

Access to efficiency programs is essential to help Nova Scotians reduce their energy use and keep bills lower in the face of rising electricity rates.

Getting to net-zero has a cost - investment in energy efficiency is the lowest cost option to help green our province.
